South Korean actress and former Girls’ Generation member Seohyun (real name Seo Juhyun) is preparing to perform Monti’s virtuosic violin showpiece "Csárdás" with the Sol Philharmonic at Lotte Concert Hall in March. She began serious violin practice only recently but trains up to 10 hours a day, even taping a finger from strain. Seohyun says hearing pianist Lim Yoon-chan’s immersive Goldberg Variations recital rekindled her love of classical music; she watched over 30 concerts in one year and felt deep reverence for performers’ total commitment. Though she does not claim to be a professional, she hopes her public challenge will show the value of striving and inspire others. Her musical background includes early piano and childhood violin lessons; she now studies violin with teacher Kim Hyun-jung and chose "Csárdás" as a long-held dream piece. Seohyun describes the violin as sensitive to humidity—"it cries with me"—and says studying classical music informs her singing and acting through breath, phrasing, and expression. She dreams of one day giving a solo recital and enjoys promoting classical music to fans who may think it dull.
