Seoul Lantern Festival Draws Record 3.83 Million Visitors Over 37 Days

The 2025 Seoul Lantern Festival attracted a record 3.83 million visitors over 37 days, a 55% increase in average daily attendance (about 100,000 people) from last year. Organizers expanded the festival area beyond Cheonggyecheon stream to include Uicheon and other urban waterways, extended operating hours by one hour, and lengthened the festival period. The event shifted from a passive exhibition to an interactive experience with photo zones, background music, and social media events. Highlights included a multimedia performance under Samilgyo bridge combining laser, fog, and sound. Collaborations grew significantly, featuring partners such as Pokemon Korea, EMK Musical Company (noted for a production called “Hanbok-Wearing Man”), the Taiwan and Czech tourism boards, E-Mart, and Andong city. Seoul Tourism Foundation said the festival’s 17 years of operational know-how and creative collaborations helped it become a beloved urban festival and aims to continue innovating to set a global example.
