The musical adaptation of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina returns to Seoul’s Sejong Center on February 20 after a 7-year hiatus. The production, led by stars Ok Joo-hyun, Kim So-hyang, and Lee Ji-hye in the title role, blends classical, rock, and crossover music with striking stage imagery that evokes a Russian winter. Noted for combining ballet, opera, and classical elements at its 2018 premiere, the show features dramatic scenes like a snowstorm and the number “Oh My Beloved” and uses large LED sets to portray shifting time and space. The creative team includes director Alina Chebik and lyricist Yulie Kim (a Korean-Russian poet), with many original creatives returning to work with the cast. Key roles: Alexei Vronsky (Yoon Hyung-ryeol, Moon Yoo-kang, Jeong Seung-won), Alexei Karenin (Lee Geon-myung, Min Young-gi), Konstantin Levin (Baek Seung-ryul, Noh Yoon), and Kitty (Jung Yoo-ji, Yoo So-ri).
