South Korea’s Consumer Agency tested 11 plant-based beverages and found black soybean soy milk (검은콩두유) has protein and fat levels comparable to sterilized cow’s milk (190ml). Per pack, black soy milk contained about 4–9g protein and 4–7g fat, higher than other plant drinks. Oat drinks had the most carbohydrates, while almond (and almond–oat) drinks were lowest in calories and macronutrients. Sugars and sodium were low across products (1–12% and 5–8% of daily reference intakes, respectively). Most products had added calcium (check labels: black soy 21–153mg; almond/oat 128–307mg) and some included vitamins, so consumers should watch for possible nutrient overlap. Dietary fiber ranged 1–4g. Safety tests found no heavy metals, Listeria, or banned preservatives. Prices varied widely: black soy 558–1,050 won per pack; almond/oat 663–1,717 won. The agency suggests plant-based beverages can be alternatives for people with lactose intolerance.
