Incheon Airport CEO Says Blue House's Illegal Interference in Personnel Affairs Has Crossed the Line

Lee Hak-jae, CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation, held a press conference on Jan 20 accusing the Blue House (Presidential Office) of illegal interference in the airport corporation’s personnel decisions. He said annual, routine personnel changes—legally the CEO’s authority—were blocked or delayed by pressure from the Blue House since late last year, including orders to postpone promotions and key appointments until a new CEO arrived. Lee also alleged obstruction of a vice president’s overseas reassignment and deliberate delays in appointing standing directors and SPC (special purpose company) board members. He warned that such intervention amounts to abuse of power and undermines stable public-enterprise management, stressing that the airport is not the property of any single party or administration.
