Hyundai Motor Group’s Meta Plant America (HMGMA) in Georgia sold about 62,000 vehicles in its first full year of production despite external challenges like U.S. tariff pressure and shifts in electric vehicle subsidy policy. The plant began production in March after 2.5 years of construction and has been building models from the mid-size electric SUV Ioniq 5 up to the large electric SUV Ioniq 9 (about 10,000 sold last year). Monthly sales peaked near 8,000 earlier in the year but fell to 4,000–5,000 in the fourth quarter after EV subsidy changes. Designed for annual capacity of 300,000 units, the plant’s initial output reflects a cautious but stable start. To raise utilization, Hyundai plans to add more variety this year, including Genesis electrified models and Kia hybrid vehicles—likely the Sportage hybrid—to smooth demand volatility. The company also aims to introduce the humanoid robot “Atlas” into parts operations from 2028 as part of a robotics expansion. Industry observers say HMGMA’s long-term success will depend on integrating EVs, hybrids, and automation to improve plant utilization.
