Korean Air Weighs Role in Canada Submarine Contract After Government Request

The South Korean government has asked Korean Air to consider participating in Canada’s large submarine procurement, a project worth about 60 trillion won to buy up to 12 submarines. Korean Air is reviewing what contributions it could make, following the government’s push as Korea and Germany compete to win the bid expected to be decided in May. The request reflects growing defense cooperation between Korean Air and Canada: the carrier is already involved with Bombardier’s Global 6500 program to produce an airborne command-and-control aircraft for the Republic of Korea Air Force. Korean Air says it is examining possible roles but has made no final decision.
