Wando County (a South Korean island county) will increase incentives for travel agencies that bring group tourists, the local government announced. Agencies that bring groups of 10 or more—domestic or international—will receive per-person payments when tourists use local restaurants, accommodations, the Wando Marine Healing Center (a marine-based therapy facility), and specialty product shops. Day-trip incentives are 12,000 KRW per person for mainland-route groups and 15,000 KRW for island-route groups; overnight incentives rise to 15,000 KRW (mainland-route) and 18,000 KRW (island-route). If the itinerary includes the Wando Marine Healing Center, day-trip rates increase to 25,000 KRW (mainland-route) and 28,000 KRW (island-route). Officials said the move aims to encourage longer stays and promote Wando as a unique “healing island” combining marine and forest therapies and island-themed healing.
