The 7th Dead Sea Land Marathon will be held on February 6 at the Dead Sea, the world’s saltiest lake famed for floating experiences and mineral-rich waters long celebrated for healing and beauty (the Dead Sea). Located about 430m below sea level, the area offers higher oxygen saturation and very low UV levels, making it a popular bucket-list resort. The race, ranked No.1 among “most unique races” by The Running Week, sold out with 8,000 entrants who will run on salt embankments across the emerald-colored sea. Events range from 5km to a 50km ultra (which doubles as the Israeli championship), including a 21.1km half marathon and the full 42.2km along the southern shore. A highlight is the salt dam that marks the Israel-Jordan boundary, opened to runners for one day only each year. Originating from a 1981 En Gedi race, the event was renamed in 2019 and honors past athletes. Races start at 6:15 AM between the northern and southern hotel zones near Ein Bokek; prizes are awarded to winners, and this year organized teams of soldiers, security forces and reservists will participate.
