Poetry and Music on the Main Stage: Sejong Center’s ‘Reading & Listening Stage’

Sejong Center for the Performing Arts opens its new season program “Sejong Inspiration” with “Reading & Listening Stage” on Jan. 25–26 at the main theater. The event transforms the 3,000-seat auditorium into a stage-side listening space where audiences sit onstage to experience curated music and poetry together. Four thematic music segments — “Gaze and Breath,” “Loss and Confrontation,” “Warmth of Consolation,” and “Resurrection and Joy” — feature works by masters such as John Cage, Beethoven, Schubert and Piazzolla and preview pieces from Sejong’s 27 upcoming performances. Twenty-seven poetry collections are placed onstage, including books by Park Yeon-jun, Shin I-in, Ko Myung-jae, Lim Yoo-young and Han Yeojin. A 30-minute “Art Dialogue” series pairs each performance with conversations between poets and performing artists (including Seoul City Ballet dancers Nam Yun-seung, Choi Mok-rin and Lee Ji-young) to explore creative inspirations. The production also partners with lifestyle brand “Heenok” to scent the stage with forest-inspired fragrances. Sejong Center’s director says the program aims to make the theater a cultural platform where audiences can expand their senses and step outside daily life.
