Seoul Auction will hold its 189th art auction on Jan. 27 at the Gangnam Center, featuring 117 lots with a total low estimate around 5 billion KRW. The highlight is Park Soo-keun’s 1964 work 'Hat and Two Women', a compact painting (24.6×15 cm) that exemplifies his simplified forms, muted palette and textured surfaces — qualities often associated with traditional Korean beauty. International names include Yayoi Kusama’s pumpkin (part of her dot-pattern series) and Ugo Rondinone’s sculpture 'Black White Red Mountain'. Modern ceramics such as full-bodied moon jars (달항아리) by contemporary potters and historical Korean paintings from the late Joseon period, including works by Shin Saimdang-era artists, will also be offered. Notable historical pieces include an imperial calligraphy given by Emperor Gojong and a collection of postcards and sketches by French printmaker Paul Jacoulet depicting Korea. All lots are on public view at the Gangnam Center until the auction day.
