'Life of Pi' has premiered in Korea as a 'Live on Stage' production at GS Art Center in Seoul. The 17-year-old Pi's 227-day ordeal with the Bengal tiger Richard Parker is recreated using highly detailed puppets designed from real animal anatomy and skilled puppeteers who perform visibly on stage, making the animals feel vividly alive (퍼펫, 퍼펫티어). Lead actor Park Jung-min returns to theater after eight years, sharing the role with musical star Park Kang-hyun. Beyond spectacular visuals — waves, starlight, and a lifelike tiger — the production explores philosophical questions about belief, memory, and survival: whether to accept Pi’s fantastical animal story or the harsher human version, and what truth or faith matters most for dignity and living on. The show runs through March 2 at GS Art Center in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul.
