The South Korean government announced a financial support initiative for artists struggling with economic hardship. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the Korea Artist Welfare Foundation, will provide an "Art Activity Preparation Fund" to 20,000 artists. Each eligible artist will receive 3 million won (approximately $2,500 USD). The program targets those with an income below 120% of the median income, ensuring artists can continue their creative pursuits despite non-artistic financial challenges. The selection process will prioritize lower-income artists, senior artists, rural artists, and artists with disabilities to promote equality. Recipients must use the funds for artistic preparation and submit a report on their activities, reinforcing accountability. This initiative aims to sustain the creative freedom and productivity of artists in Korea.
