Seoul city is offering free exhibitions at public cultural venues this winter through next spring, including city museums, memorial halls and Seoul City Hall. At the Seoul Museum of Art (Seosomun Main Building), "A World Nearby" showcases 110 works by three generations of UAE contemporary artists without reservation and offers daily 3 PM on-site talks and multilingual audio guides. In the same building, Korean artist Choi Jae-eun’s solo show "Where Beings Be" presents sculpture, video, installation and participatory works. The Seoul Museum of History hosts Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky’s retrospective "Extract/Abstract," with audio guides and English narration by the artist and curator. The Seoul Museum of Craft Art features pioneering fashion artist Geum Ki-sook in a donated-works special exhibition with linked free education programs (Jan–Mar). Historical exhibitions include a special show on Vice President Yi Si-young at the Yi Hoe-young Memorial (runs to March 1). Seoul City Hall presents a media art screening by Kim Bo-seul with an AR (augmented reality) QR experience and an ink-and-color exhibition by Kim Yoo-jung titled "Us, Space and Life," with some participatory sessions. Most exhibitions are free; many venues are closed on Mondays, so visitors should check hours and programs in advance or call the Seoul information line (02-120).
