Yeongsan Art Hall in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, will host two music events at the end of the month. On the 26th, prizewinners from the 16th Kukmin Ilbo–Yeongsan Art Hall Organ & Chamber Music Competition perform solo and chamber works: winners include high-school division co-second Son Yejin (playing Bach’s Fugue from Prelude and Fugue in G major BWV 550 and Mendelssohn’s Organ Sonata No.5 Op.65, 2nd movement), graduate/general division second Kwon Da-eun (Bach chorale BWV 731 and Dupré’s Suite Op.5 “Toccata”), and university division second Bu Young-seo (Bach Trio Sonata No.6, 1st movement and Dupré’s Scherzo Op.2). Piano duo Park In-hye and Choi Sae-rom will perform Ravel’s La Valse for two pianos. Contact Yeongsan Art Hall for details.
On the 29th, “Layered Concert” Season 2 showcases an experimental program exploring stacked layers of sound. Conductor Lee Tae-eun leads 21 musicians—6 vocalists, 5 strings, 5 winds, 2 pianos, 2 percussion, and 1 organ—presenting a sequence of ensembles: string quintet, wind quintet, vocal ensemble, organ, piano, and percussion. The program includes Bonnet’s Concert Variations (organ), the first movement of Dvořák’s String Quartet “American,” Márquez’s Danzón No.2, and arias from operas such as The Barber of Seville, Madama Butterfly, and Nabucco.
