K‑Ski Resorts Make Comeback with Foreign Visitors and ‘Snow Theme Park’ Shift

Once facing decline, Korea’s major ski resorts like Vivaldi Park, Mona Yongpyong, Phoenix Park and Elysian Gangchon are seeing strong growth driven by foreign tourists from Southeast Asia and Greater China. Resorts are shifting from pure slope operations to ‘snow theme park’ experiences—sledding, gondolas, photogenic zones—and adding services like halal food and prayer rooms (기도실) and multilingual instructors to attract visitors who often see snow for the first time. Higher‑value stays, rental and experience packages raised Mona Yongpyong’s revenue by about 20%. Operators are also adopting passes like Ikon Pass and exploring tech and year‑round attractions to diversify income as domestic demand remains weak.
