Lotte World Aquarium in Seoul introduced a new capybara named Bara, drawing large crowds since her late-December reveal. The South American herbivore (capybara) — the world’s largest rodent, reaching about 1 m and up to 60 kg in adulthood — charmed visitors with calm, curious behavior. Bara is a five-year-old female weighing roughly 30 kg. Staff created a specially designed tank over months of planning, including deeper water, an outdoor-style bath, warm 22°C indoor temperature, and full-spectrum lighting to mimic natural sunlight to accommodate the capybara’s swimming and social needs. Aquarium keepers said Bara was initially shy but has grown trusting, and they plan ecology talks to introduce the species’ traits. The exhibit has attracted families, couples, and tourists, and even gained attention as a favorite animal of K-pop star Jennie (appearing in a music video).
