At the “Theatre Tomorrow Project” masterclass in Goyang, 86-year-old veteran actor Park Geun-hyung delivered a heartfelt lecture to 30 selected young theatre actors, drawn from over 900 applicants. Mixing personal anecdotes and practical advice, Park encouraged resilience, saying an actor’s identity survives a failed role and urging trainees to keep building skills through reading, observation and imagination. The three-day program—funded by donations from senior actors like Park and Shin Goo (star of Waiting for Godot) and organized by Park Company and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service—offered intensive workshops in acting, movement and production led by notable young directors and playwrights. Auditions earlier included workshop-style evaluations emphasizing ensemble awareness and reaction over individual showiness. Participants will continue training and present a new play in April at Arko Daehakro’s Dream Ground Theatre. Park closed his talk with warm encouragement and a toast: “Let’s endure and survive!” (Arko and Daehakro are prominent Korean arts institutions.)
