Naju city hosted an "Yeongsanpo Local Food Tasting" to modernize and promote its regional food culture, especially fermented skate (hong-eo). Chefs including TV's Huh Jin and Netflix's 'Black & White Chef' Jung Ji-seon unveiled five new local dishes using Naju specialties: Naju onion beef salad, Yeongsanpo duck yukgaejang (spicy soup), Yeongsanpo pear and aged hong-eo cold salad, a hong-eo kimbap (gimbap), and Sichuan-style hong-eo cold salad with mala sauce. The event aimed to make the pungent hong-eo more approachable through varied recipes, collect feedback from tasters to refine the menus, and transfer recipes to young entrepreneurs to revitalize local businesses and tourism (part of promotion for "2026 Naju Visit Year" and regional food festivals). Officials said the tasting is a starting point to link youth startups with new food culture and boost Yeongsanpo's commercial district.
