At a Korea-Japan summit visit to Horyu-ji (a historic temple) on April 14, President Lee Jae-myung drew attention for pairing a dark navy suit with white Hogan ‘Hyperlight’ sneakers. The Italian luxury shoe (priced about 750,000 KRW on the official site) had previously sold out when he wore similar shoes as a presidential candidate, prompting speculation about another sellout. The shoes actually belonged to a presidential aide and were borrowed because the gravel paths at the site made sneakers more practical than dress shoes. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi joked about the shoes during the friendly encounter, highlighting the light, casual touch to the president’s business-casual look.
