K-Musical "Sweg Age, Shout Joseon!" Wins New West End Award

The Korean original musical "Sweg Age, Shout Joseon!" won the inaugural "Best Concert Production" category at the 2025 BroadwayWorld UK/West End Awards. Presented after a one-night concert-style showcase, "Sweg Age in Concert" played at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in central London on September 8, 2025. Sixteen Korean cast members and technical staff traveled to West End to deliver the show's high-energy choreography, ensemble performance and detailed staging despite limited set resources. Debuted in 2019, the musical blends tradition and modernity and tells a fictional Joseon (Joseon is a historical Korean dynasty) story of people demanding freedom and equality—an emotional message that resonated with London audiences, leading to high attendance, sing-alongs, and standing ovations. The BroadwayWorld UK/West End Awards are decided 100% by public votes, and the new concert-production category was created to recognize concert-style showcases that have become prominent on the West End. The win highlights the global appeal of K-musical content and shows Korean theatrical work can compete and be celebrated on international stages.
