Pianist and composer Yoon Yeon-jun released his single Hivernale on the 14th. Issued on new label New Dawn Fades, the record interprets a work by Reynaldo Hahn—an early 20th-century composer who worked alongside figures like Erik Satie and Debussy—in a neo-classical style. Neo-classical here emphasizes traditional classical roots combined with 21st-century minimalism and expansive spatial sound (neoclassical). Yoon studied at Yale and Berlin’s Hans Eisler school, was the first Korean to win the Guildhall Gold Medal in London, was named a BBC Rising Star, and plans collaborations including a 2025 performance with the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra and a self-produced Études: Triptych reinterpreting Chopin and Philip Glass. He also contributed compositions to the National Jeongdong Theater’s production “Seopyeonje: The Original” (a traditional Korean musical drama). The single includes a piano solo, “Le rossignol éperdu (Lost Nightingale): No. 52 Hivernale,” and an ambient reinterpretation titled “Fragments.” Recording, mixing, and mastering were handled by engineer Kang Hyo-min of Brickwall Sound, known for work with jazz guitarist Pat Metheny and film/TV music director Jung Jae-il (Parasite, Squid Game). Released by New Dawn Fades and Fluxus, Hivernale is available on domestic and international platforms like Melon and Spotify; the label plans to promote Yoon and other young Korean artists abroad.
