Makeup Artist Behind BTS and Cha Eun-woo Launches Own Cosmetics Line in Cheongdam

Han Hyun-jae, nicknamed 'Shaptung', is a prominent makeup artist and director of Alu Cheongdam who has worked with celebrities like BTS and Cha Eun-woo. After more than 20 years in the industry, he launched his own color cosmetics brand 'Shop Han Hyun-jae' last year, developing products (notably a cushion compact) with over 30 prototype revisions to achieve the right texture, coverage, and shades. Han says his goal was to make pro-level makeup accessible to ordinary people and plans more product releases this year, targeting 20 billion KRW in sales. He started from humble beginnings—cleaning salons and learning makeup in his early twenties—and credits relentless practice, stamina, people skills, and staying on trend for his success. Han also believes makeup is a human-centered skill unlikely to be fully replaced by AI. (Cheongdam refers to Cheongdam-dong, a fashionable district in Seoul.)
