The national place-naming committee has finalized the name of Incheon’s newly opened third link bridge as “Cheongna Sky Bridge.” The bridge connects Yeongjong Island (location of Incheon Airport) with Cheongna and was built at a cost of 770.9 billion won, measuring 4.68 km with six lanes. The Incheon city naming committee had previously approved the name, but residents of Jung-gu and Yeongjong opposed it and petitioned to name it “Incheon International Airport Bridge,” submitting about 27,000 signatures and filing for re-review. Despite protests and demonstrations, the national committee confirmed “Cheongna Sky Bridge,” and tolls of 2,000 won (one-way for passenger cars) will be charged from Jan 15 after a trial period—residents of Yeongjong and Cheongna are exempt. Jung-gu expressed regret but said it will accept the decision. (Cheongna is a new urban development area in Incheon.)
