Busan Museum of Modern Art has unveiled its 2026 program, emphasizing public engagement and expanded ways of experiencing contemporary art. March’s “Rhinoceros and Unicorn” features seven picture-book and visual artists (teams) presenting about 50 works—paintings, drawings and video—that reinterpret myths and folktales through image-based, sensory intuition. Also in March is a collection show “Collection: Night of Decisions,” showcasing video and installations by 20 artists (teams) and reflecting the museum’s collecting choices. April–June the museum will stage multi-disciplinary, body-centered performances in “Body, in Experiment” with video, sound and workshops by Jeong Geum-hyung, Hunida Kim and Kwon Byung-joon. Two commissioned projects will activate the museum’s outdoor, ecology-linked spaces on Eulsukdo with drawings and sound art related to local flora and fauna. In December a text-focused exhibition, “Art and Letters: How the World Is Read,” will encourage visitors to ‘read’ artworks—text, novels, archives and installations—shifting attention from seeing to cognitive interpretation. The annual “Platform” show in December explores clothing and sustainable, ethical production for future garments. The program highlights ecology, body and language as key themes and aims to position the museum as a contemporary cultural platform.
