Rihei (real name Lee Hye-in), 35, a well-known dancer and leader of the crew CocaNButter from the Mnet dance show Street Woman Fighter (스우파), has made her musical debut in Sisyphus at Daehangno, Seoul. Playing the role of the Poet, she says she prepared thoroughly—learning all songs and lines before rehearsals—and worked to adjust from energetic dance performance to stillness and sustained presence required in musical acting. Sisyphus is a play-within-a-play musical that blends Albert Camus’s novel The Stranger and the Greek myth of Sisyphus, exploring absurd life and hope through four actors left in a ruined theater. Rihei, who grew up in Jeju and once gave up on pursuing musical theater, surprised some fans but had long shown vocal talent; she auditioned by passionately singing a number from the musical Seopyeonje and was cast. She plans to keep challenging herself, study acting formally, and aims to become known as an actor who uses her body expressively in roles. (Cultural note: Daehangno—a neighborhood in Seoul known for theaters and live performance venues.)
