Hotels.com data shows Korean travelers’ Lunar New Year (Seollal) plans favor Japan and also growing interest in opposite-season destinations. Top searched cities in Japan were Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Sapporo, while Kagoshima and Kobe saw large year-on-year search increases (160% and 95%). ‘Season switching’ trips to warmer destinations gained traction—searches for Dubai rose 85%, Melbourne 60% and Sydney 30%. Peak-season hotel rates rose in major Japanese cities (average daily rates roughly KRW 371,000 in Tokyo and KRW 267,000 in Osaka), above last year’s regional averages. Some long-haul destinations showed more stable or lower rates during the holiday (e.g., London ADR about KRW 344,000, below its annual average). Hotels.com is offering promotions including up to KRW 30,000 off with code ‘HAPPYLNY’ for bookings over KRW 200,000 and a New Year promotion running through Feb 2 for stays through Sept 13.
