Gulliver Reimagined Wins Top Prize at Seoul Children's Theater Awards

At the 34th Seoul Children’s Theater Awards held on Jan. 4 at the Ildeul Theater in Jongno, the film complex Cinecube (영화의전당) and theater company Hatangse’s co-production Gulliver’s Travels, Zoom in out won the grand prize. The production uses everyday video media like smartphones and live cameras as playful elements, creating a visually inventive object-theater piece that reframes the world through children’s and young people’s perspectives. Judges praised the show’s imaginative expansion of questions about the world as seen by children and highlighted Hatangse’s distinctive technique and style, noting the production’s bold innovation and artistic effort. Actors Kim Chaeyeon, Oevada, and Park Hyemin received acting awards for their performances. Cinecube’s director Ko Inbeom said the award validates the institution’s collaborative production strategy and vowed to strengthen production and distribution capacities. The play is a modern reinterpretation of Jonathan Swift’s classic Gulliver’s Travels, following the protagonist “Bada” on mysterious adventures in unfamiliar worlds. Since its premiere in November at Busan’s Cinecube Sky Theater, the play has been named one of 2025’s top three plays by the Korean Theater Critics Association and has secured invited performances at the National Asia Culture Center, underscoring its artistic recognition.
