Record Overseas Card Usage by South Koreans Due to Increased Travel and Online Shopping

South Koreans' overseas card spending reached a record $21.72 billion last year, driven by increased demand for international travel and online shopping. According to the Bank of Korea, the amount increased by 13% compared to 2023. The rise in overseas travel, with 28.69 million outbound travelers, and a 14% increase in online shopping, largely contributed to this trend. Credit card spending rose by 5.4%, while debit card spending surged by 37.8%.
