Korail Distribution reported that 431 of 436 restaurants it manages in train stations nationwide received the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s restaurant hygiene rating, reaching a 99% certification rate. The system rates hygiene as “Very Good,” “Good,” or “Fair” (three-tier hygiene grading). Among certified outlets, 80.1% earned the top “Very Good” grade, 13.2% were “Good,” and 6.7% “Fair.” Remaining restaurants are completing certification procedures, expected by midyear. Certification rates rose sharply from 36% in 2023 to 86% in 2024 and 99% last year, credited to Korail Distribution’s support for partner vendors. Major stations are also being designated as “Food Safety Zones” (areas where over 60% of eateries are certified), with Seoul Station and Yongsan Station receiving such recognition. Korail Distribution says it will continue strict aftercare and inspections to ensure safe dining at stations.
