Daegu Arts Factory and Suchang Youth Mansion unveiled their 2026 operational plan to center artist-led creation while deepening citizen engagement and sustaining the local arts ecosystem. Residencies will be split: Daegu Arts Factory will run a creation residency focused on individual artists’ research, experiments, and new works with long-term stays, open studios, and expanded international exchanges (including Europe). Suchang Youth Mansion will operate a public residency emphasizing citizen participation and collaborative public-art experiments, showcasing outcomes to the community. A new 'DAF Creation ON(sil) Project' (ON실: a program name combining “on” and Korean for “studio”) will lower entry barriers for early-career artists, offering exhibition opportunities immediately after university via a window gallery and public displays that connect art to everyday life. The Factory will also broaden special exhibitions—from retro K-culture shows fostering intergenerational empathy to family-focused exhibitions and contemporary-arts programming—and run linked events like small performances and a book fair 'Mankwon-ui Chwihyang' (만권의 취향: a named book-fair). Suchang will continue its RE:ART project, reinterpreting Daegu’s cultural assets from contemporary perspectives: the first half will mark poet Lee Sang‑hwa’s 125th anniversary, and the second half will focus on the intangible heritage 'Nalmoe Bukchum' (날뫼북춤: a traditional drum dance). The initiative guides young artists from research through interpretation to exhibition, aiming to turn individual creativity into public memory and sustainably reuse regional cultural assets. Officials say the goal is a sustainable creative platform where artists and citizens build relationships and shared experiences.
