Popular comedian Lee Chang-ho (38), known for his alter-ego “Jwirola” (a parody character blending ‘mouse’ and Lola), has been tapped to help adapt the Broadway musical Beetlejuice for Korean audiences. Producers sought Lee to reshape the script’s humor to fit Korean sensibilities, noting his strong musical character analysis from YouTube work. Lee described enjoying late-night writing sessions and developing ideas with his comedy team, sometimes performing characters himself for the original creators. He said musical timing requires quicker laughs than typical comedy and that he even used internet “memes” as references. Excited about his first writing credit, Lee checked audience reactions closely, even sneaking into the crowd at intermission. Producers and director hope the localized script preserves Beetlejuice’s blunt, dark humor while making it resonate with Korean viewers.
