Shake Shack is reintroducing its Korean-style “Gochujang Shack” menu in the United States for the third time. Developed in 2020 with South Korea’s SPC Group, the lineup includes K-Shack BBQ Burger, K-Shack Fried Chicken Sandwich, K-Shack Fried Chicken, K-Shack Spicy Caramel Shake, and K-Shack Spice BBQ Fries; three items are returning from earlier runs. Gochujang (Korean red chili paste) has been praised for its balance of sweet, spicy and umami flavors and fits the U.S. trend called “swicy” (sweet + spicy). Industry observers say this is part of a broader movement of Korean-developed foods being exported back abroad — examples include Burger King’s Quattro Cheese Whopper and McDonald’s regional items like bulgogi and kimchi burgers — signaling Korean sauces becoming a global food culture rather than a passing fad.
