Gangwon Province drew big winter crowds despite severe cold and heavy snow on Jan 11. High1 Resort (Hyowon) reported about 7,983 skiers and snowboarders, and Elysian Gangchon had roughly 2,300 visitors; other Pyeongchang and Hongcheon ski areas were also busy. Regional winter festivals—Pyeongchang Trout Festival (평창송어축제) and Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival (화천산천어축제)—were popular for ice fishing, bare‑hand trout grabs, ice sledding, snow sleds, ice bobsleigh and other family activities. Organizers kept sites open after rapid snow clearing, and visitors praised the smooth operations and family‑friendly programs.
