The 2026 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, one of South Korea’s leading winter festivals, opened on January 10 in Hwacheon County, Gangwon Province. At a festival site along the Hwacheoncheon stream, a tourist successfully caught a sancheoneo (mountain trout) during the event’s popular ice fishing activities. The festival draws visitors for traditional winter attractions and outdoor experiences centered on ice fishing and local winter culture.
