The 2026 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival, one of South Korea’s premier winter events, opened on January 10 in Hwacheon-eup, Hwacheon County, Gangwon Province. Large, fluffy snowflakes fell across the festival site along the Hwacheoncheon (Hwacheon Stream), creating a picturesque winter scene for visitors enjoying the festivities. The festival is known for ice fishing for mountain trout (sancheoneo) and other cold-weather activities.
