A Korean dessert trend called “Dubai chewy cookie” (두바이 초콜릿 adapted into Korean style as 두쫀쿠) has produced an eye‑catching ‘giant’ version priced at about ₩300,000. The oversized treat—made from thin kataifi pastry (카다이프), pistachio spread, chocolate and melted marshmallow—equals the size of 108 regular ₩6,500 cookies. Videos showing the huge portion have gone viral on SNS, with reviewers calling it tasty but hard to finish. Smaller jumbo versions previously sold for around ₩18,000. The craze has spread beyond dessert shops to burger, sushi and other restaurants as a side or delivery add‑on. However, some cafes are cutting or stopping sales because rising pistachio costs (from ₩18,500 to ₩50,000/kg) and other ingredient price increases push the cookie’s cost to about ₩2,940 each, giving a high cost ratio (38–46%) compared with an average dessert cost ratio of 25%. Shops say such thin margins make the item unprofitable despite ongoing morning sellouts.
