Study of 8,556 People Links Frequent Delivery Meals to Higher Inflammation and Metabolic Changes

A study analyzing 8,556 adults found that frequent consumption of delivery (food delivery apps) meals is associated with higher systemic inflammation and early metabolic changes, even when outward health appears normal. Researchers used the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and observed that people who ate delivery meals more often had higher DII scores, lower HDL ("good cholesterol"), and elevated triglycerides, fasting glucose, and insulin—markers that commonly precede lifestyle-related diseases. Doctors say the problem is not one ingredient but a combination present in many delivery meals: high sodium, saturated and trans fats, refined carbs, additives, and certain cooking methods that together stress blood vessels, blood pressure, and insulin response. The study also noted a stronger post-meal glucose and insulin resistance response in women. Experts advise that occasional delivery meals are fine, but healthier choices—grilled instead of fried, salad instead of fries, water instead of soda—or prioritizing simple home-cooked options (frozen vegetables, canned beans, fish) can reduce metabolic burden and inflammation.
