Scar Treatment and Makeup in One Device: Kolmar Wins CES Top Innovation Award

KOREA — Kolmar (한국콜마) won the CES 2026 BeautyTech top innovation award for its AI-based “Scar Beauty Device,” the first cosmetics-industry company to receive the honor and a double winner after also taking a Digital Health innovation award. The handheld device combines scar treatment and makeup coverage in a single, 10-minute procedure. Users photograph a wound with a smartphone; an app’s AI analyzes the image, classifies the scar into one of 12 types, and the device uses piezoelectric micro-spray technology to deliver the appropriate therapeutic formula. Developers said a key challenge was combining different treatment and cosmetic ingredients in one machine while protecting active compounds from heat using inkjet-printer principles. The company aims to enter medical markets needing both treatment and coverage and eventually expand into a personalized cosmetics platform.
