SPC Samlip’s new single-pack ho-ppang (steamed filled bun) sold 2 million individual packs within 50 days of launch. Unlike the previous multi-pack format, the product is offered as single servings in convenience stores and comes in four varieties: sweet red bean, vegetable, pizza, and kimchi-mandu ho-ppang (inspired by Korean flavors). The launch tapped into the growing single-person household trend and demand for small-portion, ready-to-eat foods. Samlip’s patented ‘Hochim Pack’ keeps buns moist even when heated immediately after purchase, which consumers praised for convenience and freshness. The popularity helped convenience store sales of Samlip ho-ppang rise about 53% year-over-year for the season. SPC Samlip says it will continue product innovation to remain a winter snack staple.
