Korean piano star Yunchan Lim will team up with conductor Myung-Whun Chung and the 478-year-old Dresden Staatskapelle for a concert at Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on Feb 1. The orchestra, long regarded as a symbol of German orchestral tradition, returns to Korea after three years with Chung as guest conductor—he first worked with them in 2001 and served as their first principal guest conductor. The program opens with Weber’s overture from Der Freischütz (Weber once served as music director of the Dresden Staatskapelle), features Lim as soloist in Schumann’s Piano Concerto, and concludes with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World.” Tickets go on pre-sale for Seoul Arts Center members on Jan 8 and general sale via Seoul Arts Center, NOLTicket, and Yes24 from Jan 9.
