Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has highlighted six long-standing 'nopo' (old, family-run establishments) across Gyeonggi Province that preserve time-honored recipes and atmospheres. In Gimpo, 'Chef Boulangerie' (쉐프 부랑제) offers about 100 handmade breads, including rice red-bean buns and pecan-filled 'Alligator', now run with the owner’s sons. In Suwon’s Jidong Market, 'Honam Sundae' opens at 4 a.m., serving rich sundae-gukbap (blood sausage soup) made from pork bone broth. In Paju, 'Deokseongwon' is a Chinese restaurant founded in 1954 that uses fresh produce and no frozen seafood; it’s now in its fourth generation. Ansan’s 'Ijo Kalguksu' serves three-colored handmade noodle soup (kalguksu) with seafood broth and barley rice starter; its kimchi recipe is passed down through three generations. 'Sakak Haneul' in Yangpyeong is a quiet hanok (traditional Korean house) offering sukiyaki and tea ceremony (matcha) experiences in a space designed by a Japanese architect. Finally, Icheon’s 'Jangheung Hoegwan'—open since 1982—is known for nakgop-jeongol (octopus and tripe hotpot) and a popular variation with beef brisket. Each spot emphasizes fresh ingredients, family continuity, and the comforting flavors that come with time.
