Jeon Min-cheol (21), a first soloist with Russia’s Mariinsky Ballet and former star student at Korea National University of Arts, returned to Seoul for the ‘2026 The Night in Seoul Ballet Gala.’ He performed lyrical pas de deux including Tchaikovsky pas de deux and Romeo and Juliet, displaying feather-light jumps, expressive phrasing, and refined mime. Colleagues from Paris Opera Ballet joined him, and despite limited rehearsal time when a partner was injured, Jeon stepped in to dance demanding pieces with confidence. Mariinsky masters praised his expressive hands and unique interpretation of princely roles. The gala—planned by former national company soloists and directed artistically by ABT soloist Han Seong-woo—sold out within minutes and highlighted Korea’s rising ballet presence. Jeon returned to Saint Petersburg to continue the Mariinsky winter season after thanking fans for their warm reception in Seoul.
