The Korea Arts Council has opened the 18th Performance Arts Creative Incubator, the country’s largest festival for new stage works, unveiling 34 new pieces across six genres (theatre, original musicals, dance, music, opera, and traditional arts). In the first lineup of eight works — staged across Daehangno theatres and Arko Arts Theater from January to March — highlights include: a family-rooted but ambitious musical adaptation of best-selling children’s novel "The Blue Lion Wanini" about identity and coexistence; biographical musical "James Byron Dean" exploring the actor’s last moments; coming-of-age drama "A Girls’ High School Librarian’s Glory and Tragedy"; experimental first-person, game-style play "POOL" about memory removal; contemporary dance pieces "INTIME" and "JASON Project" probing time, evolution and extinction; a gugak (traditional Korean music) fantasy "Ssanghyangsu" reimagining an 800‑year folktale; and a new opera "2.28" commemorating the 1960 Daegu student protest that helped spark the April 19 movement. The project supports creation through production and distribution stages and will present additional premieres through March.
