Korea’s theater scene marks 60 years with a star-studded musical lineup in 2026. Disney’s Frozen (stage adaptation of the animated film) will have its Korean licensed premiere in August at the Charlotte Theatre, featuring lavish snow-and-ice staging and live performances of hits like “Let It Go.” The production involves original film creatives and a local company experienced with Aladdin. Billy Elliot returns for a fourth season in April after five years, following the story of a coal-mining boy who discovers ballet; selected child actors undergo about 50 weeks of intensive “Billy School” training. Other major shows slated for Seoul and Busan include Elisabeth (about Empress Elisabeth of Austria), Rebecca (a Hitchcock-linked thriller musical), Beethoven (a biographical musical), Dear Evan Hansen (Asia premiere’s return), and a Korean-language Phantom of the Opera. The season blends global hits and proven domestic productions, promising a rich year for Korean musical theater.
