Jang So-hee, a 29-year-old chef at Outback Steakhouse D-Tower in Seoul, won the inaugural 'Outback Steak Master Championship' after advancing through a competitive selection (200 applicants). She began at Outback as a part-timer in 2016 while studying hospitality management, left for school, then rejoined in 2019 as a salaried kitchen staffer and rose to grill manager. Jang passed Outback’s rigorous Steak Master process (practical, written, oral) and triumphed in a multi-stage contest that tested real-service skills and rapid multi-cut cooking. In the finals she presented a fillet with gorgonzola butter, a Parmigiano (레지아노) cheese chip flame presentation and a flambe finish, winning on taste, texture, creativity, technique and philosophy. As the Grand Master ambassador she will tour Outback’s U.S. headquarters and hopes to join the Korean R&D team to create a signature Outback menu. (D-Tower: a Seoul location name)
