A two-person show in Hannam-dong, Seoul, titled "Edges of Serenity," brings together 55 new works exploring fleeting emotions and quiet memories through hanji (traditional Korean paper) and ceramics. Seong Yeon-hwa presents 25 hanji pieces using dyed paper edges burned and layered, coated with paraffin and polished to create meditative textures. Her series "Flow" uses long strips to form natural gradients, while "Serenity" evokes childhood calm in a hanok (traditional Korean house) with coffee-stained paper edges suggesting the scent of her mother’s coffee. The "Identity" works incorporate calligraphic (seoye) brushstrokes that reflect momentary feeling and presence. Jo Won-jae’s 30 ceramic pieces freeze transient moments in clay: wheel-thrown forms are patterned, fired without glaze, then sanded to a stone-like sheen. His "Blue Droplet" captures a stretched water drop; "Between Before and After" suspends droplet forms to suggest impact and spread; "Nature’s Perspective" memorializes dew on broad leaves. The exhibition runs through Jan. 24 at Gallery Joeun.
