The Year of the Red Horse (병오년) begins, and Seoul Tourism Board highlights three city walking routes to kick off the year. Travel Plus explores Pimatgol (피맛골), a historic alley in Jongno that formed when commoners avoided the horse-riding main road used by officials in the Joseon era. Originally a narrow survival path, Pimatgol grew into a lively district of cheap eateries, taverns, inns and shops tied to the old central market (육의전). Despite heavy redevelopment since the 2000s that erased much of the original lane, traces remain: a recreated alley vibe on the lower floors of D Tower, horse-themed artworks in the Ima Building lobby, and longtime eateries near the Piccadilly cinema. Known for comforting winter dishes like grilled mackerel, bindaetteok (빈대떡) and sundae guk (순대국), Pimatgol endures as a beloved Seoul food street blending history and local flavor.
