The landmark play Equus, by Peter Shaffer, returns to Seoul’s Daehangno Yegrin Theatre in a Korean production commemorating its 50th anniversary since the 1975 premiere. The psychological drama centers on 17-year-old Alan Strang, who blinds six horses, and psychiatrist Martin Dysart, who probes Alan’s inner life. More than a crime story, the play explores passion, primal urges, religion and the conflict between madness and reason. Korean stagings have featured many top actors over the decades; this season’s cast includes Kim Siyu and long-running Dysart actor Jang Du‑i. Notable for actors wearing metal horse masks to evoke powerful, animalistic movement, the production uses a reduced stage and six horses (말) to create an intense, intimate experience. Runs at Yegrin Theatre in Daehangno through Feb 1.
