Japanese ski tourism is spreading beyond Hokkaido to include Iwate Prefecture’s Shizukuishi Prince Hotel, a ski-in/ski-out resort with varied slopes (including former international competition courses), onsen (hot springs), and full-service facilities that promote a stay-focused ski experience. The hotel’s 35th anniversary in the 2025–26 winter season will bring enhanced programming—night events, winter fireworks, and season-limited activities—to extend guest time on-site beyond daytime skiing. Improved access from Korea also supports the shift: Asiana Airlines operates Incheon–Sendai flights several times weekly through March 28, and Sendai serves as a gateway linking air, shinkansen, and local transport to Shizukuishi, making Tohoku resorts a practical option for Korean travelers. Industry sources say this signals a structural expansion of Japanese ski tourism, with choice of destination now driven by resort quality and travel efficiency rather than tradition alone.
